Installation Process

  1. Surface Preparation: Ensure the surface is clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or sharp objects that could damage the membrane.

  2. Priming (if necessary): In certain cases, a primer may be applied to improve adhesion on porous or uneven surfaces.

  3. Membrane Placement: Roll out the membrane and allow it to settle for proper alignment. Peel back the protective film and press the membrane firmly onto the substrate.

  4. Sealing Seams: Overlap adjacent sheets by 50-100 mm, and press firmly to ensure a strong seal at the seams. Use a roller to eliminate air bubbles and ensure full contact.

  5. Edge Treatment: Ensure all edges and terminations are securely fastened and sealed to prevent water infiltration.

Storage Guidelines

  1. Cool, Dry, and Shaded Storage: Store the membrane in a cool, dry, and shaded area, away from direct sunlight, moisture, or rain. Extended exposure to UV light or extreme weather conditions can cause the adhesive to lose its tackiness and reduce the elasticity of the EPDM layer.

  2. Temperature Range: Ensure that the storage temperature is maintained between 5°C to 30°C. Prolonged exposure to temperatures outside this range can negatively impact the membrane’s adhesive properties and flexibility, making it harder to apply and more prone to cracking or deformation during installation.

  3. Vertical or Horizontal Roll Storage: When storing, keep the membrane rolls standing vertically on a flat surface to prevent deformation, especially in warmer environments. If stacked horizontally, ensure that no more than three rolls are placed on top of each other to avoid excess pressure on the lower rolls, which could cause flattening or creases.

  4. Protect from Physical Damage: The storage area should be free from sharp objects, heavy machinery, or any items that could puncture or tear the membrane. Keep the rolls in their original packaging until ready for use to prevent contamination with dust, debris, or moisture.

  5. Humidity Control: High humidity can affect the adhesion of the asphalt layer. It’s important to store the membrane in a well-ventilated area with controlled humidity levels, ideally below 60%, to maintain the adhesive’s effectiveness.

Transport Guidelines

  1. Secure Packaging: During transport, the EPDM Asphalt Self-Adhesive Waterproofing Membrane should remain in its original packaging to protect it from dust, dirt, and moisture. Ensure the packaging is tightly sealed, especially if transporting in open-air vehicles, to prevent exposure to the elements.

  2. Proper Loading and Stacking: During loading, avoid stacking rolls too high or applying excess pressure, as this can cause deformation or damage to the membrane. Ensure that the rolls are placed securely and uniformly on the vehicle to avoid movement or rolling during transit.

  3. Protection from Heat and Sunlight: When transporting over long distances, especially in hot climates, make sure the membrane is covered and shielded from direct sunlight or heat. Prolonged exposure to high temperatures during transport can compromise the adhesive layer, reducing its effectiveness upon installation.

  4. Gentle Handling: Handle the membrane rolls with care when loading and unloading to avoid tearing or puncturing the surface. Avoid dragging the rolls across rough surfaces or dropping them, which could damage the EPDM or adhesive layers.

  5. Inspection Upon Delivery: Once the membrane arrives at its destination, inspect the rolls for any signs of damage during transit, such as punctures, creases, or tears. Any damaged sections should be marked and not used, ensuring that only high-quality material is applied during installation.
